Thankful Thursday | My Little Sister

Wow... three posts in one week.  And it's only Thursday!  Who knows what will happen next!  I've been trying to get better with blogging more consistently but sometimes it's just hard to come up with ideas when I don't have sessions ready to post yet.  Several bloggers and photographers have talked about planning out the month with blog posts to do and I LOVE this idea.  Now if I could  just sit down and do it :-)

This morning as I was getting ready I was thinking through images I had that I could post and with it being Thursday, it made me think of Thankful Thursday that I've seen other put in their statuses on Facebook.  But why not use it on the blog??  It won't be a weekly post, but more of an every-now-and-then post.  Kind of like Fabulous Friday :-)

And really, this topic could last a while because Lord knows there are SO many people in my life that I am so thankful for.  If I put them all in one post, your mouse batteries would die from scrolling long before you got to the bottom of the page.  So, I'll spare you all (and your mouses) and simply be thankful (on the blog) for one person at a time.

This time 8 years ago, I was living in Brussels, Belgium.  We were simply being teased by the idea of warm weather, but it wasn't freezing like it had been in January. My friend (who was my maid of honor), Arica and I had already been to several countries and with May right around the corner, I was already thinking about packing up to move back home.  Crazy.  By this time, I'd already grown close to the Greens and their two kids, Christen (who those of us close to them know as Sissi) and Brandon.

That fall, Sissi came over to the states to attend the University of South Carolina (I've forgiven her, don't worry) and was living an ocean away from her family. I think it was that year that we started growing closer... to me, she was already a little sister and I wanted to take her to dinner and give her a place to stay outside of Columbia and let her know that even though she was across the Atlantic from her family, I knew the life she had come from and a little bit of where she currently was.  I almost feel like we were a bit of comfort for each other at times because while I hadn't grown up in Europe, I had been there several times and lived there for a bit so it was almost like Sissi and I understood each other in a way that no one else around us could.  And I'm so thankful for that.

Another thing I love about Sissi is her intense passion for fashion (didn't know I was a master at rhymes, did you?). Sundays in Brussels were "family night" at the Green's house.  Sometimes this meant games with friends from church (which is a whole other story!) and sometimes it just meant Arica and I hanging out with the Greens while we ate Belgium waffles and watched a movie.  It was those nights that Sis would come downstairs with a STACK of In Style magazines and a notebook to take notes for her own wardrobe.  And now?  She's not working in the fashion industry (although she could!), but her outlet can be seen on her blog.  We did a fashion shoot several years ago and I can. not. wait. to do another one with her!

When it came time to ask my friends to stand by my side as my bridesmaids, I had no doubt in my mind that Sissi would stand up there with me... as well as read some of 1 Corinthians 13 in French :-)  When I came home from Brussles and walked with her through some of her freshman year of college (and my first year in the working world), she helped me process and figure out who I was, where I stood with my faith, and how in the world I could dress better! :-)

Sis... you are gorgeous... inside and out. And I don't know if I've ever told you or not, but I'm so incredibly thankful for you.  Thank you for accepting me into your family when I moved to Brussels, thank you for graciously helping me adjust to a different culture while suffering from the most horrendous jet-lag ever, and thank you for allowing me into your life, even when it's hard to talk about things.  I love you dearly and if God had left it up to me, I would have been so proud and overjoyed to have you as an actual sister.

Our Wedding | Portraits

As I mentioned before, we did a First Look at our wedding and I talked about why it was so wonderful.  A First Look isn't for everyone, but we loved it!  And today's post sort of stems from that.  After we had our first look, we had another 45 minutes or so for pictures of us and with our wedding party.  45 minutes!  I was a little crazy with the timeline and allowing so much time, but Jana and Kim were so gracious and were up for anything (they're amazing people and photographers like that!) :-)  So, enjoy some more of my favorites from our wedding day.

Don't know if you can see the goose bumps but it was SOOOO cold!

My amazingly handsome groom :-)

I love everything about this picture.

So much of our relationship centers around downtown so
I knew I wanted even our wedding party pictures in town!

I have some amazingly beautiful friends and sisters :-)

I think Kim got this shot... My friend Melody and my bridesmaids put their bouquets together the morning of the wedding.  Yes, you read that right!

This picture is amazing and I love it!
Look at my brother back there with his sun glasses... :-)

I couldn't have asked for better color on those trees!

Because of the time we allotted and the number of pictures we were able to get... there are at least 6 spreads worth of an album just with these pictures alone.  Maybe even more!

 Happy Monday!

Our Wedding | Getting Ready & First Look

Today is the last day that I'll be able to say, "Our wedding was the last one I went to!"  Wedding season officially starts today as I'm helping one of our own wedding photographers shoot a wedding this evening.  I'm so excited!  The next two weekends are weddings for friends and I'm beyond excited.

So, in honor of wedding season beginning, I wanted to share some of our wedding photos.  So many people have been incredibly patient as the last four months have been crazy busy.  There are so many amazing images!  So, I think sharing them in small doses is going to be my best method :-)

Jana Candler came to my house the morning of the wedding as I was getting ready with my maid and matron of honor and my mom.  Kim DeLoach went to the church to photograph Ben and the guys getting ready.  The coolest part about seeing all of these images together is seeing what Ben was doing as I was getting ready!

The most handsome groom ever...!

And then, before I knew it, it was time for our First Look.  I've talked about this before, but I can not say enough about how wonderful a First Look is.  We scheduled it in and scheduled all pictures to be taken before the ceremony.  When I got to the spot where I was meeting Ben, I was shaking from excitement (plus, it was FREEzing).  I walked over to him, put my hand on his shoulder, and he turned around to see me for the first time.  We were able to hug and kiss and talk, just the two of us (and a small entourage instead of 250 guests).  And the number of portraits we were able to get... WOW!  I'm only sharing ones in this post from the actual first look, but I would bet that since we had 45 minutes of "just us" time, we have at least 6 pages or so worth of album pictures!!  I love it.

And I know what some of you are thinking... but walking down the aisle was still just as special.  I wasn't just tearing up from the moment... tears were POURING from my eyes as I walked down the aisle.  And Ben was at the end of the aisle watching me and trying to hold himself together.  The pictures of him watching me walk towards him are so precious and so genuine.  The look on his face is one of the sweetest memories I'll ever have.

I was a little excited when we left the house :-)

It's also pretty great to have two photographers for the different perspectives.

I'm tearing up just looking at these again.

I love these...

This is one of my favorites!
Like I said, it was FREEzing so he was trying to warm up my hand :-)

There are so many more images to share... thank you again for bearing with me as we find moments here and there to post these!

Happy Friday!

I'm a Greenville, SC based wedding and portrait destination photographer who loves to be behind the lens. I look forward to hearing what you think about the posts and images as I work with amazing people to capture life and give them images they love.
