Harper in Black and White
Way back when... a long long time ago... people used to take pictures with this stuff called "film". And my most favorite thing to do with that film was to put a roll of black and white in my camera and hunt down those good shots that would pop once developed. But, it would be so frustrating to have not finished a roll of black and white when something came up that you just wanted to capture in color. Oh the woes of film photography :-)
So now, in the digital age, when I can have bright color or stark black and white with any and everything in between... it's hard to decide! And most times, I find myself leaning towards black and white than color. SOOO... I decided to post this full session of my sweet "niece" Harper totally in black and white. And between the black and white and her eyes and her adorable self, some of these images just catch my breath. I love them!
Harper, I can't believe you're 18 months old. You're walking, you're starting to talk, you're feeding yourself, you're making us laugh, and we're all falling more in love with you each and every day.
Harper - you are SO incredibly precious and I'm so thankful for you, your parents and that I get to watch you grow up. I love you so much!

Sometimes kids end up posing without even knowing they're doing it.
I LOVE this image. Even with the Wi-Fi sign in the window!
I feel like it should be from the 60s and the sign should say "Air Conditioned Inside".
This is her saying "Cheese".
I know she looks a little angry in the image below, but wow. I just love it.
It was time for some shopping with Mommy.
Oh my heavens... Harper... you make my heart stop and my eyes well with tears.
If I love you this much, how will it be possible to love my own children even more??
She wanted so badly to carry her own backpack!
But it got heavy quickly...
Turns out she wanted some water.
Modeling is hard work :-)
We think she got the shopping gene from her mom ;-)
Oh... that laugh!
Oh my heavens... again!
This one? It totally and completely makes my day.

Shooting With My Husband
This is something that was simply a dream for ages. Once I started following Jasmine Star and then noticing other couples in the industry who worked together... well, I wanted that too! But I had no idea if the guy God would bring would have ever even held a camera, much less know how to work one or ever have the desire to shoot weddings. And would we be able to work together?? What does that even look like? Would we be at each other throats? Would I be too bossy? (sadly to say, internet, this is totally possible) Would we want to spend an entire day together taking pictures at someone else's wedding??
When we started dating, there was one Saturday that I was at a Clemson game and Ben had gone to the Euro Auto Show at BMW. I remember seeing his pictures that he posted on Facebook and thinking that this guy had some talent! The angles and pictures he was getting (with his phone, mind you) weren't what the average Joe was posting online. I think the picture below is the one that really grabbed my attention (although the comments look a little funny with our wedding pictures next to them!).
Ben's background is in video, so I knew he had an eye, I just had not seen any of his work. And he was actually game for learning how to shoot a still camera! I was so excited! So, we had some lessons and he's been a quick learner. It's actually stretched me too because I'm having to figure out how to teach what it is that I've been taught. Some things are just second nature at this point so finding the words to explain why I do something can be a challenge. But, he's patient with me and he's so eager to learn.
When he went with me last summer to shoot Brent and Abigail's wedding, I remember telling Ben that if I got too bossy during the day to call me out and ask me to chill out :-) When I asked him at the end of the day if I had been difficult to work for, he said no and that he had had a lot of fun!
So, this is our first full wedding season of working together. And it's nothing short of wonderful. In case you aren't familiar with wedding photography, it's a full day of work! Usually on the weekend! So, the fact that we get to spend the day together while documenting the beginning of a couple's life is amazing. And who better to work with than someone that knows me better than anyone? I love it. I just love it :-)
And just to show you what it looks like for the two of us to work together and what that means for our couple's and their pictures...
While I'm getting the shot on the left (from Steph and Joe's wedding), Ben is getting the shot on the right...
While I'm getting shots like this...
Ben is getting shots like this...
I love going through images after a wedding and pulling the best of the best (this is called culling) and seeing what all Ben was able to get. With two sets of eyes, we don't always see the same things... and it's awesome! So, this past weekend, as I was getting pictures of Janet getting ready, Ben was shooting some details and the cake. And I think I may have swooned when I saw this image...
Ben, I am so thankful for you and that you not only support me in pursuing this crazy dream of mine, but that you want to work with me and support me throughout the day. You are incredible to work alongside of and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

The Website
I just love my website company... not only is Showit in and of itself wonderful, but it's also the people! They are so crazy helpful and so genuine and that's not even the people who are on the payroll. Joining Showit brought me into this world full of Showiteers. Yes, you read that right. While there's not a theme song (officially), I feel like I should be singing one when I go into the Facebook group to say hello, see what people are up to, learn something new about photography, or learn what new things Showit is up to! That's how fun this community is.
One of the many amazing things about Showit is that I have the freedom to change my site whenever and however I want to. Now, for someone like me... that can bedeathly frightening kinda scary. I'm not a designer. At all. So, the fact that I have so much freedom is intimidating! BUT, that's what else makes Showit awesome... they have templates! And if there is something I don't like about the template, I can change it around!
It's been about a year since I decided to start making my brand look a little different. My awesome friend Chris Turner helped me out with it since he designed my original stuff back in 2008. But c'mon... we're in a new decade! And... I love what he came up with. And... I FINALLY updated my website with it!
There are new pictures (and some old favorites), some new bio stuff (yay Ben is on the website now!), and some new travel pictures. There are still things I want to do to update it. But that's the wonderful thing... I can do that at any time :-)
So... take a look at the updated site, send me some love, and have an amazing Thursday!

Katelyn James Workshop Experience
Warning: there are a LOT of pictures in this post.
I've been following Katelyn James since Justin Brock, a friend from college, got married and he posted a link on Facebook to their wedding pictures (there's even a Part 2 here!). It was during that first post that I couldn't tear my eyes from the page. And I think it was during the wait for Part 2 that I fell in love with Katelyn, her images, and her style. Gah! Her pictures are gorgeous and she only gets better with time!
When she announced her first workshop, I was unable to go because of funds. When she announced her second, I couldn't go because we were still going to be on our honeymoon (woot!), so when she announced her third... and it was just before our busiest wedding season yet... I knew it was time. And it was so well worth it!
I remember walking into the Virginia Center for Architecture and hearing Katelyn. And when I walked into the room, there she was! Part of me was starstruck but that completely melted away when she welcomed me with a hug. Because that's how she is - welcoming and inviting. But I still couldn't believe I was there! After following her blog for 2.5 years, a couple of emails during that time, and several Facebook comments here and there, I was SO excited for the day and all we were going to learn.
Her attention to detail was incredible.
And boy did we jump right in. We talked about posing and lighting and marketing and creating an experience for your clients.
And we could have kept going had we not run out of time!
Do you see that bride on the screen? Yep, that's Chris Isham's wife -
Katelyn came to Greenville for their wedding about a year and a half ago!
Katelyn came to Greenville for their wedding about a year and a half ago!
And before I knew it, it was time for lunch. YUM.
I've been wanting to get my hands on some Leather Craftsmen albums for ages.
They are GORgeous.
And then it was time for the stylized shoot.
Is Katelyn not adorable??
Blair Roberts Wyatt and Kelly Gony Jessup were our bridesmaids... they were incredible.
The gorgeous flowers were done by Janie Medley of The Bride’s Cafe.
And Emily Hudspeth (a very talented hair & makeup artist!) and her husband, TK were our bride and groom.
The fun part is that this was their one year anniversary and they'd gotten married in New Orleans this same weekend last year. Well, Dana FitzGerald stylized the shoot as a Mardi Gras theme! So the rich golds, purples and greens fit the kick-off to their anniversary.
You guys...!
And then we had the details.
Are these not so much fun??
Wedding invitation by Bella Figura.
Is this cake not divine?!? I'm in awe of Kristine Bender of K Rose Cakes and what she came up with.
And then there was the table setting. The moment I saw it, I wanted to be a guest at this wedding!
Even the salt and pepper shakers fit the theme.
Katelyn teaching us some more about posing... and continually talking to and encouraging our clients.
Let's just say that this is a work in progress for this introvert :-)
May I please point out how much TEAL was being worn??
It's Katelyn's favorite color. It was like everyone fit her brand that day!
Goodness... I could have shot here all day long.
LOVE.
The jewelry is Simply Vera Vera Wang.
And then Katelyn's husband, Michael, and her sister, Emily, showed up with Bokeh!
And then we went back to shooting.
The light was just soooo perfect!
We even had some feathers to play with.
And then Bokeh took our attention again.
I'm not a dog/animal person... but he's just so cute!!
After shooting, we went back into the classroom to talk through some business and marketing.
And I'm not kidding when I say we could have stayed for another 6 hours.
But, we had to leave since the building was closing!
I was so lucky to spend a full day with Anna Klapp after we'd met at The Fix the week before.
And then, I gave Katelyn a little gift before we all headed out to dinner. Since I'm a stalker big fan, I know that she loves Diet Mountain Dew and Sour Skittles. So, I brought her some as a small THANK YOU for being so amazing and for sharing her talent and knowledge with us.
(these two photos are courtesy of Anna!)
Katelyn, seriously, thank you SO MUCH for everything!!!
